Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV)

Heat transfer vinyl (HTV) is available in two varieties in our store.  Firstly normal Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) (single colours) and secondly printed vinyl (multi-colour prints).  Both these vinyls are cut and then transferred to an item of clothing using high heat.  These vinyls are included in the term t-shirt printing even though no actual ink is directly in contact with the t-shirt.

Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV)

This is a single colour film and is ideal for simple artwork not using more than 3 colours at a time.  The finished product is clean and crisp with no fading on the colours during normal wash and wear.

Pros:

  • Crisp and clean
  • Very durable
  • Colours do not fade over time even after multiple washes
  • Relatively inexpensive

Cons:

  • Not ideal for multi-colour applications because of the process of cutting from a single colour film
  • Harsh detergents and bleach can damage the vinyl causing it to perish or become loose

Printed Heat Transfer Vinyl

This is a film printed with a photo or some other image.  This is ideal for more complex type artwork but has some limitations on having too many fine lines on the outer edges of the artwork.  The finished product is clean and crisp with little fading on the colours during normal wash and wear.

Pros:

  • Crisp and clean
  • Fairly durable
  • Relatively inexpensive
  • Ideal for multi-colour prints

Cons:

  • Harsh detergents and bleach can damage the vinyl causing it to perish or become loose
  • Colours can fade as a result of washing
